How will it help me?

People can experience persistent pain (pain which is experienced for 6 months or more) for many reasons and ongoing pain can be very challenging to manage. Pain can affect many aspects of your life, for example, activities, sleeping, concentration, relationships and mood. This course aims to help people understand more about pain and will focus on what you can do to help yourself manage pain and the many difficulties that can be experienced when you are living with persistent pain.

What does the course cover?

Topics covered on the course include:

Understanding persistent pain and its impact

How to manage activities

Useful coping strategies for pain

Dealing with unhelpful thoughts and the emotional impact

Helpful ways of communication about pain to other people

How to manage pain at its worst

The course is run by IAPT staff and is mainly a taught course with opportunities for group discussion, although it is for you to decide how much or how little you want to take part in discussions.

Living Well with Pain is a 6 week course and people are encouraged to attend all 6 sessions in order to get the most out of the course. During the course you will be given lots of information that you can have as a booklet to take away with you.

The Pain Course is held on a Thursday from 10am – 12.30pm at the Quaker Meeting House, 10 St James’ St, Sheffield, S1 2EW
